In the life we live we get to feel a large range of emotions.Emotions that are beautiful and emotions that aren’t as nice to look at.

A few of those emotions can have an impact on relationships and families.  Sometimes those emotions can affect jobs and other social interactions. 

One of emotions that needs to be addressed is the issue of anger.  Specifically using anger managment to control it.

One of the horrible consequences of anger is violence.  When you are watching a movie and the main character uses anger to fight back and win, it’s nice, but it is glamorized.

Anger is not that sexy.  It is an emotion that needs to be handled through an anger management programs.Because left alone it can cause bad results.

There can be a lot of issues that cause it.Stress in regards to money.Or it can the problems you experience in relationships.There can be many causes.  But one thing for sure.Anger has to be controlled.  You need to find anger management techniques that will work for you.

Anger could result it simple yelling.  Or worse, if you are married it can cause problems in the marriage.Sometimes when the anger is so horrible that even a breakup could be ideal.  But of course there are the times when anger gets so bad it leads to violence.  There are too many cases of domestic violence.

That is why addressing anger is so crucial.By finding effective techniques and ways to fight this emotion, many problems will be avoided. 

Not dealing with it could lead to relationship breakups.It can cause problems in your job.It can lead to social problems.  All of this problems can be avoided by using anger managment to control it.

Anger Management Problems Caused By Drinking Alcohol

A lot of people are unable to control their anger when they are drunk. So what about you? Do you find it difficult to control your anger when you are under the influence of alcohol? If you have answered "yes" to this question then this article may well be of interest to you.

Only this morning did I read about how when under the influence of alcohol two men killed another man. They had some how become involved in an argument with another man, a man they did not know. He fell to the ground and then the second man for some unknown reason kicked him in the head. It was believed that it was his head hitting the pavement that caused him to die rather than the punch and kick of the two men but despite this they were both convicted.

Now in this case three mens lives have been ruined as a direct result of alcohol and the way in which it caused two seemingly educated and normally law obiding citizens to "lash out". Would they have acted in such a way had they been sober? I doubt it.

The two men have gone on record to say how ashamed and sorry they are; not that this will really help in any way. Then there is the families of these two men - they too will have been badly affected by the whole ordeal.

Then, of course, there is the person who has of died, a waste of a promising life, and of course his family. I have and will continue to pray for them all. It really is a tragedy.

I have actually completely stopped drinking alcohol, something that when I was younger helped me to speak in a fluent manner. I had a stutter for eighteen years of my life and alcohol enabled me to gain the confidence to talk without the fear of stuttering.

I have now managed to overcome the stutter and with the help of a DVD authoring company have produced a seventy minute DVD which describes my journey to fluency along with the techniques required to stop stuttering.

As a motivational health-care speaker I’m often asked to give educational courses about managing anger. Managing your anger effectively involves challenging the myths and also instituting a combined biological-psychological approach. This vital insight is central to enhancing your emotional intelligence.

In truth, anger is a completely normal reaction. So it’s absolutely okay (and often entirely appropriate) to feel angry. The key is to learn how to express your anger in a safe manner.

Secondly, anger can be directed inward as well as outward. This “inward” anger can negatively affect your health. There is ample research suggesting that poorly controlled anger has damaging biological consequences to the heart and lungs.

It’s also vital to understand anger management from a combined biological-psychological point of view. As a healthcare speaker, it’s clear most people don’t take this combined approach. (Even healthcare specialists, such as doctors, nurses and psychotherapists, often don’t appreciate this crucial point.)

The Biology Of Anger

As you attempt to manage your anger, it’s vital to appreciate that it’s driven by a deeply ingrained biological circuit that’s much more powerful than most individuals imagine. A hardwired structure that developed to protect our ancestors in a far more dangerous time and place.

A core part of your emotional brain is called the amygdala. It’s a vital element of your brain’s rapid-warning system. Any kind of perceived threat (physically dangerous or otherwise) can trigger this structure. Once aroused the amygdala produces a range of physiological activity. (All the “symptoms” of an angry state such as a racing heart, tension in the neck, flushed face and a lump in the throat.) Also, this entire mechanism operates at an unconscious level.

The Psychology Of Anger

Now you’ve grasped the power of the emotional circuitry in your brain, let’s turn our attention to the (just as important) psychological aspects of the anger state. Research by psychologists has shown that our self-talk is full of negative stories. (When I discuss these stories in my healthcare speeches, it’s clear people relate to them.)

One type of story (described in detail by cognitive therapist Albert Ellis) we tell ourselves is full of absolute words like “never or completely or I can’t”. Examples of this type of story include:

  • “You can’t do that is this organization.”
  • “I’m never going to get a boyfriend.”
  • “I’m completely stuck.”

These stories create a “black and white” perspective that leaves you without any alternatives. Clearly “It’s a utter disaster,” doesn’t leave you with much room for maneuver.

A Healthcare Speaker’s Combined Approach

Here is the anger management strategy I teach in all my healthcare speeches; a combined biological-psychological approach. The problem with a strict biological approach to anger management is that the negative story you’re telling yourself will re-trigger the amygdala. Conversely, trying to challenge an upsetting story is extremely hard if you haven’t properly managed the biological element of your anger response.

The best way to manage the physiological element of your anger is to regularly practice a relaxation strategy. For me, I’ve found meditation to be extremely effective. Regularly taking eight minutes out of my day (yep, it doesn’t take very long) has worked wonders. When life gets a little too stressful, it has helped me to “watch” my upsetting thoughts and feelings pass by without getting too caught up in them.

With respect to the unhelpful stories. Simply recognizing that you’re being upset by a story you’re telling yourself can be very effective. In addition, you can dispute your negative story. For example, if you’re stuck in a downward spiral of “what if” questions, think strict percentages and likelihoods. Sure, it’s possible you’ll get made redundant but what’s the actual likelihood (without the emotional overlay)? Or, if your self-talk contains lots of inaccurate absolute words like “utter,” “completely” and “always,” replace them with relative words like “occasionally”.

Bottom line: Whatever anger management tools you choose to adopt (and healthcare speakers have a ton of them) just remember to take a combined biological-approach. This is the vital key to enhancing your emotional intelligence, including managing your anger.

ADHD Meds - The Story

ADHD meds are not miracle drugs that instantly get  rid of all ADHD symptoms. The meds either can be side effects or may not  work properly. It may take time in finding the right levels and types of meds  to get good results. Below are five tips on how to get the greatest from ADHD  meds.

Tip #1: Find a Good Doctor

One of the important things is you have to find a doctor  who is willing to monitor your child and the meds on a regular basis. It is  also important to find a doctor who specializes in treating ADHD or other  mental health disorders so that you can make sure that the treatment given is  appropriate and that you find the right type of treatment or ADHD meds.

Second Tip: Begin with lowest does  and adjust as needed

Fifth Tip: Recognize the effects of  diet on ADHD meds.

Some meds  given for ADHD can be greatly affected by what your child eats. High fat diets  can lessen the effectiveness of medications like Adderall or Ritalin. Drinking  acidic drinks or drinks with a lot of Vitamin C can cause Ritalin to not be  absorbed into the body properly. You should  also watch on any add symptoms with other possible interactions.
