About Making Quilted Shower Curtains

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Are you looking for some ideas on making quilted fabric shower curtains? Let’s just say you have found what you have been looking for. I believe this post will satisfy your desire.

Before engaging yourself in this project you need to be well equipped with some information and tips that may seem trivial but will prove useful along the way. This is why I invite you to read right to the very end and you will be realise how useful this post is.

The reason why you may have chosen to go with the self-making options might be out of your frustration to find exactly what you are looking for. For example you may be considering purple shower curtains or hookless shower curtains {blended|accentuated|beautifully combined} with a variety of certain colours but the problem is that your local bathroom store doesn’t sell them. This is where DIY comes to play.

Here are some thought starters.

You can make it without putting any batting in it to make it lighter.

One of the most important prerequisites of a shower curtain is water proofing – so be careful with your stitching.

I suggest you make a quilt top and then use plastic for the lining. Buy some rivets and then saw the quilt at the top to the lining.

If you choose to sew the quilt on to the liner then it will most probably leak, this why I recommend sewing at the top. Unless you don’t have much of a problem with the leakage.

If you choose to go with the quilted top idea you would need to use a backing to hide the seams.

Consider making the button holes to be on top of the hooks so you won’t have to stitch the quilt on the liner. This will leave you with an option to wash the liner easily and separately. You can even throw it away when it wears out without losing the quilt.

Presentation Skills Training Can Benefit Everyone

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Presentation skills training is something that can benefit you regardless of your profession or lifestyle.  Think back to the last time you were asked to present something to a large group – or even to a small group – of people.  If you are like most people, this was not a very pleasant experience.  Many people report feelings of anxiety and worry when asked to present something to a group.  This is true regardless of the content of the presentation.  Most people experience anxiety whether they are promoting a product or simply giving an introduction for a guest speaker.
People experience a wide range of symptoms caused by the anxiety from presenting something to a group.  Some people experience racing thoughts or sweaty armpits, while others have full blown panic attacks.  Even those who appear entirely confident and secure speaking in front of a group of people probably experience some degree of trepidation about the event.  The good news is that although some of these symptoms can be debilitating, there are things you can do to alleviate such symptoms and actually become a superb presenter.
Presentation skills training encompasses a wide range of skill subsets, all of which are vital to becoming successful in your chosen arena.  Starting with simple communication, presentation skills training teaches you how to effectively convey your message to a group of people.  You will learn about both the verbal and non-verbal components of communication, and you will gain an understanding of how what you do and say while giving your presentation can influence your audience.
Presentation skills training goes further than just focusing on your communication skills.  It will provide you with the insight to use technical and non-technical visual aids and supplements as tools of persuasion.  The fact of the matter is that we have a tremendous number of tools available to us, but many of us do not know how to effectively employ them in a presentation.  By learning about how and when to use technology and simple handouts, you can be incredibly more effective at presenting information to a group.
By supplementing your presentation with other resources, you can be sure to get your message across in a variety of methods.  And the fact of the matter is that by utilizing several methods of communication, you can be more certain to impact your target audience.

Unleash Your Inner Genius With Higher Learning Credentials

A doctorate is the highest educational achievement that you can earn and there is much respect associated with having those letters behind your name. Only one out of a hundred people have a doctorate, so that reverence is certainly due. Also, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, someone with a doctorate degree earns one to two million dollars in lifetime earnings more than someone with a master’s degree. With numbers like that, what are you waiting for?

Ph.D. or Doctorate?

It seems that there is some confusion when it comes to the difference between a doctorate and a Ph.D., or Doctor of Philosophy. Actually, a Ph.D. is one of several doctorate degrees that you can earn. Doctorate degrees can be broken down into two types: professional doctorates and research doctorates.

People who earn professional doctorates apply their degree to a specific profession, as opposed to an academic field of study. These include M.D. (Doctor of Medicine), J.D. (Juris Doctor), DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine), and PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) among many others.

Research doctorates include the Ph.D. and are often focused on a particular subject. Here is a breakdown of some of the more popular doctorates available in the United States:

  • Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy: This degree is normally earned by those who want to go into research or Academia. There are many fields in which you can earn a Ph.D. including history, mathematics, and chemistry.

  • Psy.D. or Doctor of Psychology: If you want to be a psychologist, than you can either earn a Ph.D. in psychology or this degree.

  • DBA or Doctor of Business Administration: This degree is for people who are interested in the theory of management. Those who earn this degree normally go into research or teach on a college level.

  • Ed.D. or Doctor of Education: If you are looking to become a school administrator than this degree is for you.

  • D.A. or Doctorate of Arts: This degree emerged in the 1960s and is offered in many of the same subjects as a Ph.D, particularly arts and humanities. It is often labeled the “teaching doctorate.”

What does a doctorate entail?

Most doctorates require that you have a master’s degree in a related field of study. Once you are accepted you begin with a rigorous course of study, especially for the professional degrees such as M.D. or J.D. The professional degrees are normally followed by an exam, such as the bar examination, and/or an internship, such as a residency. With Ph.Ds and other research doctorates, courses are normally followed by an exam and then the writing of a thesis or dissertation. These dissertations can be anywhere from 50 to 450 pages in length and commonly focus on a particular area of expertise. For example, someone pursuing a doctorate in U.S. Economic History might write a dissertation on the effects of Soviet Union socialism on U.S. economic policies during the Great Depression. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the average time it takes a student to earn their doctorate is seven years. However, there are some accelerated programs out there and a lot depends on how long it takes you to write your dissertation.

Online Study is a Great Option

If you are interested in a doctorate degree, do not rule out online colleges. Three of the five most popular doctorate degrees (according to the Department of Education) are available through online study; these are Doctor of Psychology, Doctor of Engineering and Doctor of Education. Online learning is an extremely convenient way to learn. The courses are offered in a format that works around your schedule. This is perfect for people who have a career that they do not want to take time off from, or if they have a family. In fact, online doctorates are so flexible that there really is no reason not to finally reach this highest level of achievement.  More information is available via Online MBA University and Find Online College.

Where to Find ADHD Meds

Monday, June 8th, 2009

ADHD meds are not miracle drugs that instantly get  rid of all ADHD symptoms. There can be side effects or the meds may not work properly. It can  take time to find the right levels and types of meds to use to bring about good  results. The following are five tips on how to best work with the doctor to get  the most from ADHD meds.

First  thing to do is to look for a Good Doctor

You need to  find a doctor who is willing to monitor the medication and your child on a  regular basis. You may need to find a doctor who specializes in treating ADHD  or other mental health disorders so you can ensure that the treatment given is  appropriate and that you find the right type of treatment or ADHD meds.

Second  thing to do is to commence with lowest does and adjust as needed.

ADHD meds  are prescribed in doses that are not based upon age or weight. A good doctor  will start out at the lowest dose possible and then adjust it up if needed. Doctors will usually allow three to seven days to elapse between  adjusting doses and run an adhd test.

The reason  for giving the lowest possible dose is that side effects get more common and  more severe with increased doses. Plus there is no need to over medicate as  this can often lead to a zombie-like state that is one of the top reasons  parents top giving their child the medication.

Tip #3: Use the medication every day, consistently.

There are some parents who give ADHD meds irregularly to  their child such as only during the week and then do not give it to them on the  weekend. The accurate results will not be gained by this way of dosing.

The new research suggests that not giving the medication  consistently, which it used to be common for doctors to recommend parents do  this, can cause the medication to not work as efficiently. It can also cause  problems to the child become displeased going to school because they have to  take the meds.

Tip #4: Involve everyone is watching for side effects  and other effects of the meds.

Because of combined efforts of teachers, doctors  and parent, most children are diagnosed with ADHD. To medicate as a group  effort is the only thing that makes sense. Everybody should watch the effects  of medication. The participation of teachers, doctors and parents in taking  care of the child can greatly improve the chances of ensuring the right meds  are found and used.

Tip #5: Understand the effects of diet on ADHD meds.

Some meds  given for ADHD can be greatly affected by what your child eats. High fat diets  can lessen the effectiveness of medications like Adderall or Ritalin. Drinking  acidic drinks or drinks with a lot of Vitamin C can cause Ritalin to not be  absorbed into the body properly. You should  also watch on any add symptoms with other possible interactions.
