BAM! The First Attack Hits

My wife was driving when she was struck by her first panic attack. Clearly this could have had disastrous consequences. As soon as we knew we were safe and the initial shock had died down, shock for us both I might add. We made an appointment to see our doctor.

After the lecture that it’s all in her head we eventually got prescribed beta blockers. I’m using the term “we” here as I felt as much part of it as my wife did. The drugs would (he promised) stop her heart from racing at the onset of an attack, thus stopping the attack. All good in theory.

We tried going out in the car again and sure enough, at the same place she felt another attack looming. The result was a panic attack but with a calm heart rate. She described it as worse than normal as she felt both out of control and calm at the same time.

Stick The Drugs In The Trash

We trashed the beta blockers as soon as we got safely home. My wife never drove, not once, in the next 9 months. She never had a panic attack either, which was a mixed blessing.

We couldn’t let this situation go on. Her not being able to drive for fear of having an attack at the wheel. I went on the web and did a bit of digging. We tried a few different things, with mixed results. Nothing really did the trick of stopping them completely.

We’ll Try Anything Once

The search continued until we happened on another so called “cure”. As we had tried everything we found so far we tried this also. Initial results were ok. We knew any success was because of the method and not the drugs, which she wasn’t taking. The first attempt at driving and she got the overwhelming senses of an attack coming. She put the system into gear and managed to come out unscathed. So far so good.

When we talked after, she said she still had an attack but she managed to keep it at bay. Just knowing she had been able to lower the intensity was a huge boost in itself. She was sure the next time she could stop it all together. She didn’t.

Easy Does It

But she did manage to decrease it effect. Every time she had an attack she had the ability to lower the force of it. Pretty quickly she got to the stage where she can recognise the signs and stop it dead in its tracks.

If you are a sufferer you can carry on as you are, or try drugs from your doctor. The former won’t help you and the latter may or may not help.

Panic and anxiety attacks are on the increase. The cause of the increase isn’t fully understood, but modern life with all its pressure and stress could be a factor. But the fact remains they are causing more and more people no end of problems.

Could you spot if you were having a panic or anxiety attack? That’s a difficult question to answer as the symptoms are quite wide ranging and can vary from mild to the downright frightening. You may just experience a hot sweat or you may experience an attack where you can’t breath and your heart races out of control.

I think if you were having the more serious symptoms you would know you needed some type of help. But you may be suffering one of the many lesser symptoms and not really realising that you are having some form of anxiety attack. My wife had her first serious panic attack while out driving the car. It wasn’t the fact she had suffered an attack that hit her worst, but the fact she could easily have hit and killed someone or maybe even herself. This type of situation just doesn’t warrant thinking about.

Fairly unbelievable but it’s only in these recent times that panic disorders are increasing. When I say anxiety disorders you can group panic disorders & panic attacks and anxiety attacks together. They are all the same & can be regarded as one simple problem.

Is there a reason we seem to be suffering more attacks in the modern day? I’m sure there is and I’m sure the scientific community will happily produce a number of factors they see as responsible. Regardless of cause, the serious of the condition remains for the sufferer.

There are a lot of symptoms to these disorders and you may not even be aware of it but you might be suffering or on the verge of being a sufferer. We aren’t born as victims to panic disorders but they start somewhere and more often than not very suddenly. You can take an anxiety symptoms test & identify whether you have, or are going to have a disorder.

Usually a simple anxiety symptoms test will be series of tick boxes that you either answer yes or no. You can then add up your score & read the advice given. You can then make a decision as to whether to seek further assistance or to take direct action yourself to stop these attacks.

Even though a panic attack & an anxiety attack is the same thing, it doesn’t mean it isn’t terrifying all the same. I sat & watched as my wife was gripped by a panic attack while driving our car. To say I was scared is the understatement of the century.

Panic Attack Symptoms Test - Do You Need To Take The Test?

You’ve heard of panic attacks but do you really understand what one is? I can say from experience they are darn scary and it wasn’t even me having the attack! I happened to be in a car with my wife driving while she had an anxiety attack.

I sure wish we’d had the chance to know beforehand by taking an anxiety test. Unfortunately we had to find out with a full blown attack.

I’m not lying when I say it was one of my scariest moments. I’m mid forties and I’ve never seen anything like the thing that my wife was in the grip of. “In the grip of” is a good description as well. It was like two giant invisible hands were crushing her.

I bet there are a lot of people who are having these attacks and not understanding just what’s going on. They may be suffering at differing levels but they are still suffering. It’s not all doom and gloom as they can be easily conquered no matter how bad.

My wife went through countless doctors who all came up with a similar story. They’d say its all in her head. They’d say there’s nothing to fear. Trained doctors or not, I’ve seen these first hand and there is something to fear if you can’t quickly stop them.
