goal setting

You can determine yourself as an enterpriser, setting your own 60 minutes, being your own chief, savoring the exemption of being self employed. And you can just imagine what life will be like in one case you’re a great achiever and pulling in all that cash. But hang on. Before you run to the automobile salesroom and test drive your dream automobile, let me postulate you something: Are you cut out to be an entrepreneur? Do you actually have what it takes to get rich? To answer, let’s see how you measure on these five characteristics. Whe considering anxiety self help Can you / do you:

o Stick with something even when you don’t yet realize results? The day you officially start your occupation will be one of the most exciting days of your life. You’ll plausibly run on adrenaline for the next different days if not weeks. Eventually we will cease from being so joyful. And now you’re working the same amount of hours, trying to get your occupation off the ground, but it’s just not as exciting any more. The worst affair, however, is that you’re not yet seeing results… so you don’t have any tangible rewards to motivate you and keep you running forward. Let me postulate you this: Can you stick with something even if it doesn’t compensate immediately? If so, this whole enterpriser matter might be for you and you can go on to pay attention to your build self confidence.

o Let go of a losing idea? Trust me on this: When you pass days and workweeks working on an idea, it will feel like your baby. And really it is, because it for sure is your brainchild. But what materializes if your thought doesn’t work out? What if one particular idea is just drawing down your whole business? Can you let go of it, even though you’re attached to it and still love it? If so, you might make a good enterpriser as you continue to deal with how to improve self confidence along with lots of of focus to living the law of attraction

o Have confidence in your powers? People are going to question you. Some may even joke at you. If you listen to them, the chances of you relishing success are slim to none. Are you confident in your abilities and your thought? If so, then you might make a good enterpriser.

o Know the value of the products/services you allow? Here’s a big problem: Sometimes starting entrepreneurs work like dogs for cents. And a lot of times this materializes because they don’t measure the results they’re offering. The beginning occupation person thinks, “Gee, I wouldn’t pay that much for this product, so I better keep the price low.” But you are not your market. We are not the end user marketplace that we are targetting. And if you’re providing a good product or function with a high value to your clients, then you should charge them consequently. If you’re billing too much, they’ll let you know. But until then, you need to measure the answers you provide. And if you do value your products or services, then you might be a good entrepreneur.

o Solve problems? Finally, and this is a big one, are you a problem solver? Obviously, problem solving comes in handy when you’re an entrepreneur, because the buck stops with you in your business. There’s no boss to solve your problems – you’re the superior. So it’s up to you to uncover and solve problems in your line of work.

Courage, Beliefs and Goal Setting

Vision Board Software Video

While much has been written about goals little has been drafted about the courage needed to set goals in the first place.

It doesn’t take much digging to see many people are living with fear, frustration and doubt.  Who among us can say we haven’t had a restless night worrying about what disaster could befall us the next day?

The more I read about the science of thought (“The Field” by Lynne McTaggart for example) the more I’m convinced thoughts are things. Our thoughts can serve us up dark images of despair and sadness or they can paint pictures of joy, laughter and deep abiding happiness.

It is our thinking, more than our surroundings, which determines our level of happiness.  Hold a thought and you will create an emotion.  That emotion drives a behavior which in turn creates an event.  To change your events you first must change your thoughts.

For those of us who have spent any time reading Self Improvement literature ‘positive thinking’ is not a new idea.  In fact it’s almost tempting to read the ‘thoughts are things’ message and dismiss it as a cliche?.

The challenge, for the vast majority of us, is to move from the well worn path of pessimistic thinking to a place where your thoughts create feelings of hope and joy.  So how do you do it?

First know your thoughts and emotions don’t have to rule your life.  They can in fact be harnessed to further your goals.   The more you practice becoming conscious of your thoughts and emotions, the greater your ability to shape and control them. Therefore encouraging only those thoughts that will produce empowering emotions.

Think about the person you want to become.  Picture that person going through their normal day.  What are they wearing?  Where are they going?  How do they get there?  Who do they spend time with and what kind of conversations do they have with others?  What kind of contribution is this person, this “future you”, making?
Get clear on these images.

Now imagine how this person feels.  What emotions do they carry with them?  When you look at them at their very best, what words come to mind?

What kind of thoughts go through their mind?  What thoughts would this person simply not give energy to?  Need some help defining some of the positive beliefs and thoughts your future self will carry?  Check out the StepOne Affirmation Library.  It’s well organized and filled with great quotes, beliefs and positive thoughts.

Once you’ve got clarity on your future thinking, take a moment and write the thoughts down.  Capture both the positive thoughts your future self will carry and the negative thoughts you have today that your future self will discount.

You’ve just taken a significant step forward.  What you have just done (or maybe you’re just about to do) lays the foundation on which all your other work will stand.  So what’s next?

If you’re building a StepOne Vision Board enter these thoughts in the Affirmations section of the ‘My Profile’ page.  If you’re not yet a StepOne member, print out your Positive Thoughts List on a piece of paper and your Negative Thoughts List on another sheet.

Know that we attract to us that on which our thoughts dwell.  If our thoughts are about things we don’t want we will attract those things to us; if our thoughts are about those things we do want, we will attract those things to us just as easily.  So, think about what you want!

Post your Positive Thoughts List in a place where you’ll be able to read them every day.  As for your Negative Thoughts List, print that out too.  Hold the Negative Thoughts List in front of you.  Now vow to leave no place in your mind for these thoughts any longer.

The thoughts may pass through your mind again but they will not be allowed to stay.  Ideally, say this to yourself in the mirror as if you were making a solemn promise to your best friend.  Now take that Negative Thoughts List and destroy it.   What do I mean by destroy it?  Crumple it up, cut it up, shred it or burn it over the sink.

Want to make this experience really powerful?  As you’re writing down your lists put on your favorite motivational music. Crank the volume!  Building your Positive Thoughts List works best when you’re on an emotional high and there’s nothing like great music to get you there.

So you have got some clarity on your future self. You’ve defined the thoughts your future self will carry and those you will leave behind.

The next step is to apply all of this and change your day to day thinking….much easier said than done I know.

Here’s the good news, if you can catch yourself holding a negative thought early enough you can usually stop it from turning into an emotional reaction.  So how do you lift yourself out of negative thinking patterns?  Try out the Rubber Band technique.

Get a rubber band that fits snuggly on your wrist.  Each time you find yourself holding onto a thought that doesn’t serve you, snap the rubber band.  And not just a little wimpy snap.  You’re looking for a big, ‘SNAP!’.  The kind of snap that makes you wince.  This is where the normal Rubber Band technique ends.

The StepOne version of the exercise takes it…well…a step further (forgive the pun).  As soon as you’ve stopped reeling from the wicked snapping you’ve put on yourself repeat the positive thought you want to carry instead. If you can say it three times out loud (ideally you’re not with friends when all this is happening as you’ll get some strange looks) then you’re hitting the sweet spot of mental reprogramming.

For example let’s say you are working hard to reach and then maintain a certain weight.  You’ve identified a negative thought you often repeat that goes something like ‘Just have whatever you want, you’ll never lose the weight anyways’.  After giving yourself a proper snapping you quickly say ‘I only eat food that strengthens and replenishes my body’.Repeat this three times.

You’ll find that in no time at all you will change your thinking around reaching a given goal.

Do Not forget that it’s actually possible to benefit by using visualization to achieve all need to live a great life. Live Courageously!

7 Powerful Tools for Goal Setting

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

There are some people who just always seem to get what they want. While you struggle and never seem to catch a break, these people seem to float through life with ease and grace.

The secret of these people is not luck, but the effective habit of setting goals. Think about it, if you don’t know what you want, how are you going to get it?

There are 7 powerful techniques to effective goal setting:

1. Know what you want- What comes to mind for most of us is ” The biggest house in the neighborhood and a 6 figure income”. But have you even stopped to think about WHY you want that? What makes YOU happy and fulfilled. Do not take this step lightly. Use effective methods like meditation or the Silva Method to go into the depths of your mind.

2. Goal Setting Principles - Its very easy and tempting to write down something vague like “be happy”. But how do you measure and strive towards this goal? Its important to write down specific goals. Take something like "Be happy" and turn it into "Being happy in my career. Have a job I love to do”.

3. Aim High - Its important to set difficult, but realistic goals.  If you set easy goals, you miss out the sense of accomplishment you get when you achieve them. If the bar is set too high, you are setting yourself to feel like a failure when you do not reach it. Remain realistic but optimistic when thinking about your life goals.

4. Think Long term and Short Term- Many successful people who set goals, set 1 year, 5 year and 10 year goals. When a short term goal is achieved you get this feeling of euphoria, knowing you are on the right track. You will know what to work towards when you set long term goals.

5. Write it down - By writing down you goals, they become real. It is now set on paper what you want to achieve. Most people who write down their goals, surpass them. It will give you a sense of accomplishment to go back to a list of goals to find that you have achieved or surpassed them.

6. Visualize - Once you know what you want, you have to see yourself there. Its important to see yourself achieving your goal, feeling the how it makes you feel when you do. Do you feel happy? Successful? Free? Make a vision board with pictures of your life goals and power words of how you want to feel. Make it a priority to spend time meditating on your goals every day. If you find this hard at first, there are many great programs out there to help you use the power of your mind, like the Silva Method, simple mantra meditation or concept meditation.

7.Celebrate Your Successes - Quick, name your 3 greatest successes in your life? Now name what you did to celebrate those success? Nothing? Did it take away from your accomplishment? When you set important goals in your life, its imperative to acknowledge the importance of achieving it.

When you develop these 7 highly effective habits of goal setting, you will soon find more clairty and purpose in your life. Armed with these tools, you are ready to take on your life.

Crush Your Procrastination Habits

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Procrastination seems to be a part of our nature.  We waited until the last minute to study for exams, we wrote papers in the wee hours of the night.  We’ve been procrastinating for years.  Overcoming procrastination isn’t easy, but it can be done.  You need a little determination and a few tips to help you get on task and stay on task. Let’s look at ways to cure procrastination.

The first step to solving any problem is to admit you have one. The second step is acknowledging you want to solve that problem and will do what it takes to overcome the issue. So repeat after me, “I am a chronic procrastinator. I will do whatever I must to rid myself of this nasty habit.” Well done! This is the first step toward a new “do it now” you!

Generally, there are three reasons we procrastinate.  One, we just don’t like to do unpleasant things.  Two, we’d rather do what we’d rather do.  Finally, we put off and jobs or tasks that seem overwhelming.

Even when you can bring yourself around to doing that which is unpleasant you will find a million other excuses why the task can wait.  Whatever your reason for procrastinating you must find a way to overcome the excuses.

If the problem facing you is a job you don’t want to do, then think of some way to leverage your best interest in favor of getting the task done.  Offer yourself a reward once the job is done.  Do something for yourself.

If the problem is that there is something else you would prefer doing then make that your reward for getting the first job done.  For example, maybe you don’t want to go to the dentist, but you wouldn’t mind getting your hair styled.  Schedule your hairstyle immediately after your dentist appointment.  It will give you a way to reward yourself and make you do the less appealing task.

When a task overwhelms you, try to break it down into smaller jobs or tasks.  It will help you overcome procrastination when the job seems doable.  Breaking the task into smaller jobs makes each of them achievable.  Pretty soon, the entire task will be done.

Procrastination seems like a never-ending battle, but you can overcome it.  Here are a few more tips you can use.

Plan your day and practice good management and organizational skills.  Once you establish a schedule stick to it.  If a job runs over its allotted time stop and add it to your list for the next day. Don’t expect a miracle.  Take small steps and you will begin to procrastinate less and less.

Can Life Coaching Help Me?

Friday, June 12th, 2009

As life coaches we are aware that the mention of life coaching can cause varying and interesting preconceived notionsabout what it is.

Here are some of those questions that we have come across and some answers that you may find useful if you are contemplating using a life coach.

Does hiring a life coach suggest I don’t have a life?

No such thing. Everyone has a life (unless you’re dead, in which case you’re deemed to be uncoachable); people just choose to live their lives in a lot of very different ways.

Does it imply that I need fixing?

No. It’s not really meant to do this, and besides, the role of the life coach is to be the catalyst so you can reach your own goals. It’s [still]up to you to make it happen.

Is this just throwing away money and using up time?

Maybe. In fact definitely if you are not committed to taking responsibility for doing the work, and/or you don’t REALLY want to change.

Will I be cooped up in a small room with a bearded man wearing a hemp shirt and leather sandals, who happens to be so in tune with nature that he made the conscious decision not to invest in anti-perspirant a long time ago?

Highly unlikely, although anything’s possible.

Even scarier, could I end up in a confined space with a woman who also fits this description?

Even more unlikely, but who knows…?

Ok, so I’m being trite. But let’s look at the real mattershere. Firstly, you’ve been thinking about getting a life coach. Can I ask for what reason? Can you clearly articulate the reason, or is it that there is something not quite right with how you are currently experiencing life and all you know is that it could somehow be better?

My Friends Think I’m Nuts!

Secondly, your friends think you’re nuts. Good for them, they’re entitled to their opinions, be they misguided or otherwise. What makes you think this is what they are thinking anyway? I’m asking you to consider how you’re thinking.

Do you know for sure they think you’re nuts, or are you just worried they might? And besides, even if they were to think you crazy, why should you care at all? Could it be that you are living to please others at the expense of pleasing yourself? It happens to a lot of people.

An unconscious fear of rejection is a very real barrier to personal freedom. This happens a lot. The good news, it can be identified and dissolved, and it’s quite doable. Provided of course you are willing and committed to meeting your darker sides square on.  You need to accept them for what they are.  Also, taking the responsibility to nurture more harmonious responses is important. This will be relevant when future situations arise that would have previously set you into a flat spin or frozen you in your tracks.

Hold the phone, this sounds a bit like counselling or therapy. I thought setting and achieving my goals was a big part of the process? Reaching my goals? Having a better life? Yep, aha, affirmative.

It’s useful for all of those things, but under-stand this; the things that have really been frustrating you and holding you back are directly linked to your behaviours and what drives those behaviours.

Your Goals Matter

Sure, as part of the coaching process you’ll get the opportunity to think about what you really want.  You’ll examine where you are now in relation to that, set some goals and take positive actions toward achieving them. And if your only barrier (as it may initially seem) was not having clarity or some accountability, then you’ll reach your goals quickly.  That’s great, a win-win for all.

Or is it?

But what happens when the next big goal comes along? Has the taste of success given you the momentum needed to replicate your efforts?  Or do you need to hire the services of the coach again?

Perhaps the real issue is a lack of self-motivation (again this is universally common, don’t feel bad). Here’s the rub…Until you are consciously aware of the underlying drivers, this trait will continue repeating itself. The driver could be a number of things such as not feeling good enough, fears around rejection, etc. “No way, that’s not me! I’m scared of nothin’!” you say. Perhaps that’s true, or perhaps you act that way to compensate for these unwanted gifts inherited from your parents, teachers, and society in general.

You Are Part of the Problem Too!

The point is those are the real barriers. And as you move towards your goals the coach will recognise any self-limiting behaviours and be there to help you address any mental G.A.I.L. (Gremlins, Assumptions, Interpretations, Limiting Beliefs).

Let me summarise by sharing another common and universal truth. On a daily basis, through the medium of our thoughts, feelings, choices, words and actions, we create the life we now have. We’re doing our best with what we’ve got, and all we really want is to enhance the quality of our life experiences. What are the missing ingredients that keep us from accomplishing that?  It’s basically the knowledge and insights as to what drives us, and the techniques, resources and support required to create lasting change. That’s probably something you were never taught in school…

If you really want to improve your lot in life, to develop and evolve into a more integrated human being than you were yesterday you need to be self-aware.  If you really want to experience deeper quality relationships, to attract more satisfying work, again, you need to be self aware. It’s the awareness to think, feel and act differently that create better results.

A well rounded life coach can help you explore the underlying drivers and bring them into conscious awareness.  This awareness may cause the changes that will be important for you to create a better life.

I know with confidence, that you have laten talents and abilities just poised to come to the surface. Identify them, nurture them and align your life around them, that’s when things start to really happen for you. The differences are subtle, but after a while your friends might think going nuts is a good option!

Importance Of Goal Setting

Monday, June 8th, 2009

If you want to change your life, if you want to achieve success in the forms of wealth and happiness, you simply must plan for it, otherwise it is very unlikely to happen! You simply are very unlikely to achieve your goals if you have not written down a plan to get you there.

All successful people set goals in their personal and business lives.  All successful businesses put business plans in place, and measure their performance against them.

Yet very few of us actually plan our own lives, we just expect better things to come along.  The vast majority of people spend the whole of their lives “expecting”, but their expectations never materialise.  Don’t spend your life being one of those people drifting along.

Start changing your life right now …

  • What are your dreams?
  • What do you want to achieve in life?
  • What would you like to be doing right now if you had the money to do anything?

Here is your first step to success …

WRITE DOWN YOUR DREAMS & GOALS!

That’s it!  The first step to changing your life is as easy as simply writing down on paper your dreams and your goals.

When you write your goals down your subconsciously affirming them in your mind, in other words you’re tuning your brain to achieve them. You are making your dreams become reality!

This first step is crucial to how much you’ll achieve in life

Don’t limit what you can achieve by setting easily achievable goals … THINK BIG!

If you think big and set life changing goals that you focus on achieving every day, there’s a strong chance you’ll realise your dreams.  If you only manage to get halfway to achieving those goals, you’ll still have achieved a lot and probably changed your lifestyle considerably.

But if you only set small goals, you’ll align your actions with those targets and therefore have no chance of achieving greater things.

I changed my life a few months ago when I invested a lot of money in a new Internet Marketing club. Since making that decision, I have published well over a hundred blog sites and the results have been amazing in just a short period of time, I would never have achieved them had I still been thinking small targets!

I’ve taken the best of what I’ve learnt in that club and turned it into my own course that I’m now giving away for free.  If you want to conquer the search engines and change your life, I suggest you go and get your copy of my Make A Dollar A Day right now whilst its free!

Is this the way to successful goal achievement?

Monday, June 8th, 2009

It is impossible to set goals without setting them down on paper, by the end of this article you will know why. It is often asked why is there a need to write out goals when the individual knows what they want. Have you heard the term, motorised memory, that is where you remember more things by writing them down than any other way, we vizualize things rather than imagining the words themselves,so by writing out your goals as fully as possible it is an important factor in goal achievement. This is the best step if you do it this way, as you write out your goals enjoy the feeling of having achieved them, experience the difference it has made to your life. This will be obvious but will feature later in the article for clarification purposes.

So many people blieve that goal setting only involves your professional goals when to get your life in perfect balance you need to devote as much time to setting social goals such as those for your family, your well-being and relaxation. True life balance means that you do not leave one rat race for another, at least working nine to five or whatever meant you shut the office door, working for yourself at home can encroach on quality family time do not allow that to happen. Your family will support you but getting a work to life balance is essential for more than just keeping your relationship together.

Finally the most important part of goal setting, which is why I said that writing your goals out was very important is vizualization. Remember I said that in order to set good goals you need to know where you are going to end up before thinking about how to get there, this is where vizualization plays its part, because you have not got the thing you want you have to vizualize what it will be like when you do have it, how will your life change. In order to see your goal fully as an ideal that you want in your life you have to write it out fully and it is of little surprise that as you do so your goal becomes fixed in your mind and will probably have a few changes that make it a better goal anyway. This is a vital step in goal achievement, remember you are after goal achievement not goal setting, get this bit right and you are over half way to making your dreams come true. Look at your car with all its techincal gadgetry everything began as a thought they did not just happen as if Santa Claus visited where they are made.

If you do not believe that you can use vizualization just try these little exercises. First what do you see when you hear the word ‘Elephant’, do you see the word in your mind or a great grey animal with a long trunk and tusks, 99% of the population will see the image of an elephant not the word, that is because we think in pictures. Remember the last time you went on holiday and you studied the brochure depicting where you were to travel to, did you not also imagine scenes that would take place that did not feature in the brochure, they were not in the form of words but images. When you read a book your imagination paints pictures of the scene that is being described. We use vizualization every day of our lives.

I confess I love showing people how to use vizualization in their lives and have spent the last 25 years doing so.
